Houi Xai - Pak Bang - Luang Prabang

Chiang Khong and the two days cruise to Luang Prabang

Day one - Arrival at Baan Nai Sra Resort, check in and remaining of the day is free. Dinner and overnight at the resort.

Day two - Breakfast at the resort and transfer to Chiang Khong immigration office for passport fomality and cross to Houi Xai on the Lao side for the same, a short drive to the pier to board the Nagi of Mekong for the first leg of river journey. A stop is made at a Lao village along the river, lunch and refreshments provided. Mid afternoon arrival at Pak Bang and transfer to your hotel for overnight at this small cosy village. Distance traveled today is about 150 kilometers

Day three - A short walk to the nearby local market is recommended prior to having breakfast at your hotel. Board the Nagi of Mekong for the last stretch of river journey, hot lunch and drinks are served on board, a stop is made at Pak Ou cave before arriving in Luang Prabang at around 16.00. Distance traveled today is about 180 kilometers

Price : Thai bahts: 5,600 or Euro 115 per person in twin sharing.

Included in the price: 1 night accommodation at Baan Nai Sra Resort and another night at a standard hotel in Pak Bang, two breakfasts, two lunches, one dinner and a tour guide aboard the Nagi of Mekong.

Price : Single supplement is Thai baht. 1,300 or Euro 30 per person.

Days of operations:

Depart Houi Xai Sunday - arrive Luang Prabang Monday.

Depart Houi Xai Wednesday - arrive Luang Prabang Thursday.

Two days cruise on the Mekong from Houi Xai to Luang Prabang

First day

Boat leaves from Houi Xai main pier at 09.00, tea & coffee and fruits served, after two hours of the relaxing cruise, a stop is made at a ethnic Lao village along the river where you may observe primitive way of life of the people. Hot lunch is served on board, afternoon arrival at Pak Bang and check in at Petch CHokxai hotel or similar. Dinner and overnight in Pak Bang.

Second day.

A walk to the nearby local market is a "must" return to hotel for breakfast and check out, boat leaves the dock at 08.30, another stop is made at a village by the river prior to hot lunch on board. Astop is also made at the famous Pak Ou cave just before arrival at Luang Prabang main pier around 4 PM.

Price in twin sharing is THB.4,600 per person.

Single occupancy surcharge is THB. 800 per person.

Included in the cruise prices are:

Special charterred boat with soft cushion seats, modern toilet and safety eqquipments on board.

English speaking guide, admission fee at Pak Ou cave.

Hot lunch on both days of journey, tea & coffee, fruits in season.

A cruise to remember

This one day cruise is temporarily suspended due to low water level in the Mekong river, instead, we are offering the two days cruise. Our one day cruise will resume as sson as the water level becomes higher, hopefully in July or August 2008

Now you can taste its alluring aura in a cruise along the stretch from Houi Xai to Luang Prabang. Aboard the regal Nagi of Mekong , you can experience the history and drama of this eminent watercourse and thrill to the spectacular scenery of riverine forests and looming emerald mountains.
During the nine-hour leisurely cruise on this elegant riverboat you will pass by remote rustic villages of the lowland Lao peoples and of ethnic hill tribes, and take a tour of the revered and mysterious Tam Ting caves. A river cruise unparalleled anywhere in the world!
The Nagi makes the trip to Luang Prabang in one day. The 330 horsepower Hino turbo not only provides speed, but makes the ride smooth as polished glass.
The boat departs at 8:30 in the morning and arrives at approximately 5:30 in the evening.
Hot food and cold drinks are served on board.

Change of cruise schedules

Effective as of March 19th 2008 onward.

Due to low water level in the Mekong river during the dry season, we are forced to suspend the one day cruise until the water level is higher than what it is today. Instead, we are offering the two days cruises on Sunday and Wednesday with a night stop in Pak Bang.

The boat will leave from Houi Xai main slow boat pier at 09.00 and will stop at one or two villages along the river. Lunch and refreshments are served on board on both days. Accommodation in Pak Bang is provided at a proper hotel. Also visit Pak Ou cave on the second day of journey prior to mid afternoon arrival in Luang Prabang.

Price is THB 4,200 per person in twin sharing.
Single occupancy surcharge THB.800 per person
